Summer at the Soho Theatre Writers’ Centre
There are two upcoming events here – the first is held on 9 June, ‘Getting Your Script Noticed’ – presented by the BBC Writersroom and Soho Theatre. Paul Ashton from BBC Writersroom shares his top tips on how to make your script stand out. Practical exercises and an informative Q&A are included in the session. The second is held from the 13-14 August in Soho, titled ‘The Clinic’. It is available to playwrights all of levels of experience, and will enable you to develop new ideas and perspectives on your work.

Bromley Literary Festival

Season of Inspiration
This is an online writing course that has been successfully run for the past 10 years. You would spend 4-5 hours p/week working for 9 weeks in total on various exercises as well as your own work. It takes a flexible approach which allows you to choose the hours you wish to work and join in with the supportive online community. This flexibility makes it suitable for new and experienced writers, as well as those from overseas.

Nottingham Writers’ Days: Graphic Fiction with Brick
During this one day intensive writing workshop, graphic novelist and comic writer Brick (John Clark) will take you through the art of comic writing. Creative Nature Walk
Based in Stamner Park, Brighton, this workshop offers the writer the chance to relax, unwind and enjoy a walk in some peaceful surroundings. In conjunction with participating in fun writing and drawing exercises, the writer will also get involved with some meditation and simple breathing exercises. Sparks Writing Immersion Day
The annual Sparks new writing event is a warm-up to the Hotbed festival, featuring new plays, masterclasses, coaching and social events. The play readings are free and require no booking.
The first workshop, ‘Finding Your Voice’ is from 10-12pm, with Sarah Dickenson at the Soho Theatre. It will feature an introduction to playwriting and is designed for early career writers. It is a free event but with only 10 places available. Email email@example.com to reserve a space, and for all other bookings.
The second, ‘Masterclass’ workshop, is from 12-2.30pm with renowned playwright, April de Angelis. It is a practical playwriting workshop for those experienced in writing for the stage. Only twelve places are available here.

Mendham Writers – July Workshops
Mendham Writers offer two workshops – a one-off workshop and a series of six sessions. The day workshop is a summer Creative Writing Workshop with Nichola Charalambou from Creative Writes. You have the opportunity, individually or in groups, to express your ideas in the form of free flowing writing, which you will not receive feedback for in this relaxed and fun environment.
The six session workshop is based at the Orford House Social Club with Brandon Robshaw. All held on Sunday mornings, the aim here is to work through the entirety of the creative process, from getting started to polishing your finished piece. Suited to children’s fiction writers, creative writers and life writers, writing tasks will be set weekly between sessions.

SBT Screen Lab 2011
The Scottish Book Trust presents Screen Lab, a chance to discover what it takes to break into one of the most ‘competitive and lucrative’ areas of writing. Led by award winning writer and director Adrian Mead, Screen Lab is open to professional writers at any stage of their career.

On the Write Track
There are various ‘On the Write Track’ sessions with Irene Lofthouse, a professional actor, writer and storyteller. In the ‘taster’ session, people who want to explore the writing process are given fun activities using five random words to develop a short piece of fiction.

Five Fiction Workshops
This is a series of workshops for beginners, or those just seeking or achieving publication. There will be five sessions, every Thursday from 7-9pm. Spaces are limited due to the small makeup of the group.

July Event with Laura Atkins
An intensive one day workshop with Laura Atkins, children’s book editor and judge for the London Writer’s Competition, explores writing for young readers and subsequent publishing. Group discussions and writing exercises will be covered, with an emphasis on picture books, early chapter books and writing for teens. This workshop is based in the village of Rodmell, once home to Virginia and Leonard Woolf, and will be held in the local village hall.

Creative Writes: Creative Writing Workshops
These Creative Writes workshops are held at the London Fields Leluu Supper Club Venue, with a 10% offer for early bookings made by July 12. There are currently only ten places available. Workshops are held every Tuesday evening between the 23 August – 6 September 2011, and will last from 7-9.15pm. The groups are small and motivational, with an emphasis on free flowing writing and no feedback. You would work individually or as a group, and workshops are suitable for all interests and levels of ability.
