writLOUD Reunion: 13 September with Jonathan Coe

writLOUD's very first guest reader, Jonathan Coe, author of What a Carve Up, The Rotter's Club and most recently, The Terrible Privacy of Maxwell Sim, returns for the September event.

'our country’s leading satirist' - Daily Telegraph.

Jonathan will be joined by Matthew Loukes, Dorothy Crossan and Cordelia Feldman reading short stories and novel extracts.

Mez Packer reads from her debut novel Among Thieves  -  a ‘highly original debut’ (Guardian), which was long-listed for the Authors’ Club Best First Novel Award in January, and in February was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best First Novel.

In addition, Jill McGivering reads from her novel The Last Kestrel.

Writers’ Hub and Birkbeck are proud to announce a new raucous rendition of WritLOUD, hereafter to be referred to as ‘Hubbub’. Hubbub is a readings event showcasing both new writers from Birkbeck’s Creative Writing courses and established authors.

 

Guest authors to date include Jonathan Coe, Derek Johns, Hari Kunzru, Susan Elderkin, Zoë Fairbairns, Russell Celyn Jones, Peter Hobbs, Benjamin Markovits, Erica Wagner, Marie Phillips, Kate Pullinger, Helen Simpson, Richard T. Kelly, Jeremy Sheldon, Sarah Salway, Jean McNeil, Rich Hall, Julia Bell, Richard Milward, Emer Martin, Blake Morrison, Nii Parkes, Robert Hudson, Amanda Smyth, Chloe Aridjis, Magnus Mills, AL Kennedy,  Niall O’Sullivan, Alex Preston, Toby Litt, Monique Roffey, Michael Rosen, Mez Packer, Bernadine Evaristo and Alan Beard have all made guest appearances.

 

Hubbub takes place twice a term at the Kings' Cross Social Club (2 Britannia Street, London, WC1X 9JE.

 

Admission is free of charge, but with a suggested donation of £3 towards the running of future events.
